Techno Jeep is awesome

December 21st, 2009 Cyclone

A bunch of people create music using a real Jeep Cherokee in real time.

The sounds in this video are ACTUAL sounds from the Jeep. Everyone began rehearsing their parts 2 weeks before we shot the video. It took us 7 hours of filming to get a solid take. Enjoy!

The Cars I Hate: Chrysler PT Cruiser

December 4th, 2009 admin

Ah yes, the PT Cruiser. This is a car made by Chrysler that is supposed to be a throwback to the retro styling of 1930’s panel vans. It’s a successful car for Chrysler that has enjoyed high sales numbers. This is really quite unfortunate because it’s atrociously ugly and bland.

09 PT Cruiser 1

Look at it! Maybe it’s just me but the damned thing is ugly. The styling is more Homer Simpson than it is retro in my opinion. The only way to make the car look worse would be to release it as a convertible… Oh wait, they did that… and it was ugly. The interior is even worse.

09 PT Cruiser Interior

The interior looks like it was pulled straight from a boat. The comically large spokes on the very big steering wheel. The awkwardly large looking gear shifter. I will admit that I’ve never sat in or driven a PT Cruiser but judging by looking at the interior in pics and spying through peoples car windows, it looks pretty tight and full of cheap plastic. I feel if I did drive one I’d have to commandeer a captains hat. The interior is far from impressive.

On the plus side, the car seems to have received good reviews and even won awards. That doesn’t keep me from hating it. I think I’d rather drive a bad car with piss poor reviews that broke down all the time than be seen driving one of these. If it were offered to me as a rental car, I’d choose walking. If someone gave it to me, I’d leave it on the side of the road with a sign saying ‘Free car!’.

Here is something that’s never made sense to me about this car. I see more PT Cruisers every day than I see any other car on the road and I’m not over exadurating here, they’re everywhere! Why is Chrysler losing money? I blame the Dodge Caliber; I’ll post my thoughts about that car later.

The PT Cruiser was originally released in 1999 (2000 model) and the 2010 model was just released. This car has been around for 10 model years! That’s 10 years too long if ya ask me…

Of course, this is all my asshole biased opinion.

The 2904, the LeMons of Cannonball.

November 26th, 2009 Cyclone

Doing the Cannonball run from New York to Los Angeles is something that has always been a dream of mine. It’s definitely on my automotive bucket list and will be something I’ll do one day. I’ve always had an interest in doing this rally every since I learned of the Gumball 3000 races. A few years ago I was following the story of Alex Roy and his BMW M5 and the 31 hours and 4 minute trek he made across the country.

Meet the 2904, a Cannonball run type race with a catch, you have a $2,904 budget. This budget includes buying the car, getting the car race ready, fuel, etc. Bottom line is at the finish line you can not exceed $2,904.

I happened upon an article by the St. Louis News which follows a team called ‘Cookin’ with Gas’ and their Ford Crown Vic Interceptor over the 2904 mile journey from NYC to LA. The article tells their story including picking up the car, the troubles they had along the way and even talks about one of the drivers sex toy business.

At 3:48 p.m. November 7, Team Interceptor is off and running. We get our time stamp from the Red Ball Garage on East 31st Street, the Cannonball’s famous starting place. After lurching through Manhattan’s knot of stop-and-go traffic, we ascend from the Holland Tunnel into New Jersey — then promptly make a wrong turn.

There’s a hush in the car as the GPS system decides how to reroute us. “Recalculating,” the robotic voice says. “Turn right on Indian Place.” The voice is set to “Australian female” mode, whose name, the team decides, will be Sheila.

Within minutes, we’ve merged onto Interstate 280 and discovered that our right rear blinker doesn’t blink. But the taillights work, so we’re still street-legal.

At 4:31 p.m., someone farts and all windows slide down except the rear driver’s side, which is broken and duct-taped shut from the outside. Chris LaCon is skeptical that this feature will lend credibility to our aura of a police vehicle. But something must be working, because cars ahead of us keep peeling off into the right lane to allow us passage.

The article is a great read overall. Click here to go to the St. Louis News website and read the article in it’s entirety.

GM pulls the plug on Saturn

October 1st, 2009 Cyclone

Way to go GM, great job killing off one of your only brands that was actually doing well! Because of the whole bailout, GM had to start axing brands and quickly. Months ago, GM planned on selling Saturn to Penske in order to keep the brand alive, dealerships open and keep employees jobs. Unfortunately that deal fell through and now the plug has been pulled.

This is really unfortunate, Saturn was beginning to pump out some pretty nice cars. Of course, they were pretty much all rebadged Opel’s but god dammit, America needs more European cars. The Saturn Astra is doing pretty well here, I see a lot of them. The styling is good, overall the car is pretty good but a Redline version would have totally sealed the deal of it being my next car.

I drove a Saturn Aura for a week last year when I was staying in LA. I was completely impressed by the quality of the car. It was just a base model rental car but it still had a ton of options. It completely surprised me.

The sad news is that it’s not really Saturn’s fault for their own failing. The auto industry has been on a downhill plunge since the economy tanked. All auto makers are in some sort of trouble these days it seems. Saturn just had less money because they’ve always been on the GM backburner as they focused more on trucks and suv’s.

On the plus side, does this mean the price of the Saturn Sky will drop now? Hmmm… Guess GM has a bit more cash to through into other dying brands nobody cares about like Buick.

The most awesome van ever

September 24th, 2009 Cyclone

About a month ago we were driving around Norcross and spotted the most awesome van in the world. I took a bunch of pictures but totally forgot to post it here. Browsing PeopleOfWalmart.com, I found that someone else had posted pictures of the same van which instantly reminded me of the awesomeness.

I’m not sure what the hell is going on here but this van is definitely insane. It looks to be the combination of 3 different vehicles and a child’s clubhouse. I don’t know if the owner of the van lives in it or what but the thing was packed with all kinds of random crap. I wish that it wasn’t surrounded by other vehicles so I could have taken better photos.

Prepare yourself because this van is ~*~ awesome ~*~

3 Ferrari’s illegally parked, super sexy

September 23rd, 2009 Cyclone

So 3 Ferrari’s park in a handicap spot… These photo’s have been making their way around the web and now they are here. A lot of websites posting these photos are bitching about how “Omg Ferrari drivers are douchebags, they park illegaly, I’d so key their cars” blah blah blah. Honestly, are these dipshits serious? 3 of the most exclusive Ferrari’s ever made…so exclusive you had to be invited to buy them. If you own one of these cars, you’re allowed to park however you want. In fact, it’s okay if you line your Ferrari with dead puppies to prevent other cars from dinging yours.

Okay, that’s a bit much. When it comes down to it, these cars were parked at a lodge in California and were probably given permission to park like that. Also if not, you think a parking ticket is going to bother any of these drivers?

The best Apple iPhone app ever

August 18th, 2009 admin

There is an app for the Apple iPhone named i-Gun. The video below demonstrates how it can be effectively used to relieve some bumper to bumper traffic road rage tension. Apple has a nasty habit of deleting apps from the app store so if you want this, grab it now!

Ford Mustang with a double dose of hood scoop love

August 14th, 2009 Cyclone

Yo dawg, I heard you like hood scoops so we put a hood scoop in front of your hood scoop so you can hood scoop while you hood scoop. The irony is, neither hood scoop is functional. It’s cool though because Xzibit totally approves…

Top 10 Post-Apocalyptic vehicles

June 20th, 2009 Cyclone

So here is a good article about Post-Apocalytpic vehicles. I’d say the coolest in my opinion would be the Taxi from Fifth Element. The chase scene with the cops and Bruce Willis’ epic flying Taxi driving really shows off how truly awesome flying cars would be.

Check out the rest of the cars here:

A Tata Nano video review

June 10th, 2009 Cyclone

Am I wrong for being so hard on the Tata Nano? Watch the video review below and decide for yourself.

Top Gear will be back on the air June 21st. Hopefully this series will have Clarkson taking a look at the car. I’d be interested to see how it does on the track…
