Citroen announces junior WRC team

January 4th, 2009 phix

Loeb and the Citroen C4 WRC at Rally Sweden

Announced back in December on the 24th, Citroen has revealed that they will be running a second team in the 2009 World Rally Championship. Coined as the Citroen Junior Team, it will contest a minimum of eight events in the 2009 in order to be officially recognized as a manufacturer junior team thus being eligible to score manufacturer points. In regards to the driver line up it’ll be no surprise to see Conrad Rautenbach back in one of the cars as well as Evgeny Novikov. These two will be contesting the full twelve rounds of the 2009 season while a third driver, Sebastien Ogier, will contest at least six rounds. However, there IS a possibility that the Junior World Rally Champion will be competing in more than six rounds no doubt depending on his performance.

And… perhaps the most interesting bit of news from this announcement …will be that of ex-Subaru driver, Chris Atkinson, will be driving for the team in the opening Rally Ireland round. It has been announced that he’s only be signed on to drive for this single rally but there is a possibility that depending on how well he does he’ll be signed on to drive for more rallies during the season.

The 2009 World Rally Championship is set to kick off with Rally Ireland on January 30th.

2009 Nissan 370z revealed

October 30th, 2008 Cyclone

Well, here it is. Kind of ugly compared to the 350z in my opinion. All the details about this ugly beast will be unveiled at the LA Auto Show November 19th. Hopefully it’s got some brute to make up for it’s sheer uglyness. Okay so it’s not that ugly… Hopefully you can actually drive the car without exploding the transmission and voiding your warranty like the GT-R.

Dodge Challenger Targa

October 20th, 2008 Cyclone

The Dodge Challenger Targa is a full-blown competition car that raced and completed the infamous Targa Newfoundland race this year. “Samantha” started life as a Mopar Challenger drag race package car. Many features were borrowed from the Dodge Viper, but the most noticeable is the snakeskin green paint. To keep the front end down, a Mopar chin spoiler “Splats“ developed in a full scale wind tunnel, was added to the front of the car. Mopar gauges keep a close eye on the vital signs. The Mopar hood is equipped with a scoop to make room for the 540-horsepower, 490 lb. ft. of torque, 392 HEMI® V-8 Mopar crate motor. Mated to a Tremec six-speed manual gearbox, the engine blasts power to the rear wheels through a production 2009 modified gear ratio in the rear end. An abundance of fade resistant stopping power comes from Stop-Tech brakes. Up front, the six-piston calipers clamp 380-millimetre rotors, while in the rear, four-pot calipers work with 355-mm rotors. Developed by KW, the race suspension and brake upgrades came from a proven hero — the Dodge Viper ACR, which just broke the production car lap record at the world-renown Nurburgring in Germany. With only a few exceptions, the Dodge Challenger Targa was built using parts available through Mopar.

The Green and Black paint scheme really brings back the classic look of this car. Too bad they failed to give it a retro interior like the Ford Mustang and the new Chevy Camaro.

The 2011 Honda S3000

October 10th, 2008 Cyclone

Novembers Road & Track briefly mentions the Honda S3000. Details of this car appear to be pretty scarce as I had no idea it was even in the works. There aren’t many details at the moment but they mention the possibility of a V6 3.0 or 3.5 liter engine which should give the car around 280-300 bhp. An inline 6 sounds more practical to me but it’s more likely it will get another high-reving 4cyl which isn’t exactly a bad thing.

The render above shows what the car might look like. It’s certainly hot but I wouldn’t hold my breath on that being the final design. The strange thing is, besides some forum chatter, I can’t find anything else about this car.

Nissan ‘Eco-Pedal’ pushes back when you press the accelerator too hard

August 5th, 2008 Cyclone

“TOKYO (Reuters) - Nissan Motor Co said on Monday it has developed an accelerator pedal that can push back on the driver’s foot when it detects excess pressure and poor fuel efficiency.

Japan’s No.3 automaker said it would install the “ECO pedal”, which can be switched on or off by the driver, in its cars from next year. It didn’t specify which models would be equipped with the new technology.

Internal research showed that the system, which comes with real-time fuel consumption levels displayed in the instrument panel, could improve fuel efficiency by 5-10 percent depending on driving conditions.” Reuters

In theory this sounds like a good idea but what about those moments you absolutely have to stomp the gas pedal, say for example if you’re trying to blow through a red light or outrun a train at a crossing?

The Fuel Checker

August 4th, 2008 Cyclone

The Fuel Checker, a new revolutionary device to prevent idiots from pumping Diesel into their Petrol tanks and vise-versa!

According to their website, 150,00 people a year+ a year mis-fuel every year! I guess big letters on the gas pump which say “DIESEL” and “GASOLINE” are too confusing for some people. And if that’s not enough, the button to start the pump usually says DIESEL or GASOLINE and the price difference for diesel is about 70 cents right now.

I’d assume the people who can’t figure out which fuel to put in their car are also the same people who put on make up, masturbate, piss in bottles, etc while driving.

The official website can be found here and how the device supposedly “works” can be found here.
